I started State of Cotton NYC because I wanted to wear sweaters again.
My wool and cashmere sweaters were irritating my skin; I constantly found myself overheating and couldn't wait to take them off. The only sweater I could comfortably wear all day was a 100% cotton sweater, but it was 20 years old and I needed more!
So I went searching for cotton sweaters, and I was disappointed to find only inferior quality cotton or cotton blended with synthetics. The choice was clear; I had to create my own.
Having worked in the fashion industry for over 30 years, I traveled the world for material sourcing and design inspiration. I reconnected with a few friends who I knew from the business, and after two years of research and design we curated the absolute highest quality Italian-spun Egyptian and Turkish cotton yarns in a range of weights. We then took classic sweater silhouettes, perfected the fits, and chose a color palette to complement every wardrobe. No detail has been overlooked; even our labels are 100% cotton and comfortable against your skin.
